Most people know that a good night’s sleep is crucial in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. According to the NHS, most adults require around 8 hours of sleep per night, yet over 41.75% of adults in the UK just aren’t getting enough sleep!
Data obtained by KWFinder found that the phrase “how to fall asleep” was on average searched 14,800 times per month in 2021. Additionally, the search term “sleeping medications” was also searched an average of 3,300 times per month by Brits.
Results from Anxiety UK’s 2021 study revealed that 44% Brits felt their sleep had worsened as a result of the pandemic, with 81% citing work related stress and anxiety as the main cause for sleep disruption.
A good quality mattress can be the difference between a restful night’s sleep and a sleepless night. In fact, research published by Applied Ergonomics revealed that new mattresses can improve sleep quality by 61% and reduce back pain by 56%.

Most Popular Mattresses in the UK (2021)
Methodology: Using data from Google search trends and AhRefs, we collated data and found that on average, Brits searched for Memory Foam mattresses 54,000 times per month!

- Open Coil Mattress
Despite Memory foam mattresses’ popularity, a survey conducted by the French Bedroom Company, found that 24.6% of memory foam mattress owners frequently woke up during the night. Whereas, only 2% of Latex mattress owners had disrupted sleep during the night.
So we know that the memory foam mattress is the most widely popular mattress in the UK, but which mattress has the highest average rating?
Average Mattress Rating
Methodology: Using Amazon, we have collated the average customer rating of the first 10 (non-sponsored) Mattress products featured on the site for each specific type of mattress.
Our results show that Latex Mattresses have the highest average rating, with a score of 4.62 out of 5. In comparison, Open coil spring mattresses rank last with an average rating of 4.02 out of 5.
Average Hours of Sleep Based on Mattress Type
A survey in 2020 found that on average, 56.86% of Latex mattress owners slept an average of 7-8 hours per night, whereas only 46.38% of coil spring mattress owners slept for an average of 7-8 hours.
