Since the pandemic, the popularity of Astrology has soared to record levels. With an unprecedented amount of uncertainties surrounding our daily lives, it appears that many have turned to the stars for their guidance. In the UK alone, searches for terms relating to “astrology”, “star signs” and “daily horoscopes” have reached a staggering 2.2 million per year. Astrology has also taken social media by storm in recent years, with videos on TikTok featuring the hashtag ‘Astrology’ receiving over 35 billion views.
With record numbers seeking solace in the stars for guidance on relationships, health and careers, Beds Divans wanted to find out what our star signs tell us about our sleep. Here is how we conducted our research:
As part of our research to determine which star signs have the best and worst sleep, Beds Divans analysed more than 1,014 articles, Youtube videos, forum discussions, and social media threads (Tumblr, Twitter, and TikTok) to discover the frequency with which each star sign was associated with terms relating to poor sleep and insomnia.
Most Sleep Deprived Star Signs
- Research indicates that Aries are 3,396% more prone to insomnia than the Libra star sign.
- Despite Aries (March 21 – April 19) ranking 1st place, our research shows that collectively those born in the Autumn are most likely to have insomnia related issues.
- The Fire Elements (Aries, Leo & Sagittarius) are most likely to suffer from insomnia. In fact, Fire signs have a 36% higher chance of suffering from insomnia compared to the Earth elements (Capricorn, Taurus & Virgo)
Sleep Tips for the Top 5 Most Insomniac Star Signs
#1 – Aries
(21st March – 19th April)
Aries is the astrological sign associated with the ram. This star sign is known for its energetic, honest and determined nature and is thought to be able to survive on minimal sleep. According to Astrologer, Kyle Thomas, this sign’s temperament leads to them having “difficulty sleeping because they’re always ready for their next conquest”.
Research from Beds Divans shows that Aries takes the top spot for being the sleepiest of all the star signs. In all 1,014 articles, videos, and social media threads examined in our study, Aries was mentioned over 804 times as having trouble sleeping and experiencing insomnia.
Sleep Advice for Aries:
To improve their sleep health, Aries should consider channelling their energetic and determined temperament into a routine wind-down schedule. Try meditating before you go to sleep, or writing your plans for the next day in a bullet journal are both good ways to start winding down for the day.
#2 – Virgo
(23rd August – 22nd September)
Virgo is the astrological sign associated with the Maiden. Similar to the Aries star sign, Virgo’s drive to accomplish goals keeps their mind busy at night, constantly creating and checking off items on their to-do lists. Astrologer, Kyle Thomas notes that Virgos “spend most of their time breaking down every little piece of information” meaning they find it difficult to slow down and relax. With this in mind, it is no wonder that this star sign features second in our list of the most insomniac star signs.
Research from Beds Divans shows that Virgo takes second place for being the sleepiest of all the star signs. Our study examined 1,014 articles, videos, and social media threads and found that Virgo was mentioned over 684 times as having difficulty sleeping and experiencing insomnia.
Sleep Advice for Virgo:
Due to their practical nature and tendency to overthink, Virgos may find it beneficial to write down their thoughts in a journal as they wind down for bed. Additionally, to quieten their busy minds, Virgos should add some herbal tea, such as calming camomile to their nighttime routine.
#3 – Scorpio
(23rd October – 21st November)
Virgo is the astrological sign associated with the Scorpian. According to the Astrologer, Kyle Thomas, Scorpios are “often obsessive about their relationships and spend a great deal of time strategizing how to get the things (and people) that they want”. Given their tendency to obsess over matters and energetic nature, it may come as no surprise that this star sign is the third most insomnia prone star sign.
According to our research, Virgo was mentioned in 63% of all articles, videos, and social media threads examined for its insomniac tendencies.
Sleep Advice for Scorpio:
Due to their high energy levels and obsessive thoughts, Scorpios may find that reading a book before bed is the best way to calm their busy minds. Additionally, burning essential oils, such as lavender or camomile may also help to soothe their bustling minds.
#4 – Aquarius
(20th January – 18th February)
Aquarius is the astrological sign associated with the water bearer. Known for their self-reliance and creative minds, it is common for Aquarius to struggle to quieten their minds at night. According to Astrology expert, Kyle Thomas notes that “With so much activity going on inside of them, they focus less on the pleasure of sleep and see it more for its “purpose.”
Given Aquarius’ creative and overly active mind, it may come as no surprise that this star sign features 4th in the most insomnia-pone star signs. According to our research, Aquarius featured over 587 of all 1,014 articles, videos, and social media threads examined for its insomniac tendencies.
Sleep Advice for Aquarius:
Due to their endlessly active minds and bustling creative thoughts, Aquarius may find that reading a book before bed is the best way to entertain their creative mind whilst also calming their active minds. Additionally, incorporating a hot bath or shower just before bed may also help to soothe their body and mind into a deep slumber.
#5 – Gemini
(21st May – 20th June)
Gemini is the astrological sign associated with the twins, Castor and Pollux, known as the Dioscuri. Those born under this sign tend to overthink, especially at night. According to Astrologer, Kyle Thomas, Geminis are “always moving a mile-a-minute, this chatty and impulsive zodiac sign is prone to sleep patterns that may be irregular”.
Given this star sign’s fast-paced nature tendency to overthink, it makes sense that they would rank 5th in the most insomniac prone star signs. According to our research, Gemini featured in 464 of all 1,014 articles, videos, and social media threads examined for its insomniac tendencies.
Sleep Advice for Gemini:
Given this sign’s tendency to overthink at night, Geminis may benefit from ditching their mobiles and other screens a few hours before bed. Additionally, some meditation before bed will also help to relax their busy mind, helping them fall asleep sooner.
